Digital Diary - Horseback Riding with Sam

It's been a crazy couple of weeks, Ladies and Gentlemen...long story short, I got a new job! After months of studying and testing and sweating bullets, it's all mine, and I started Saturday. Between that and Sam finishing up the Semester and preparing for the hiring process in January, I've been savoring my quality time with Sam and trying to milk every second of my free time and energy.

So, when I first got the job, I thought that there'd be about 2 weeks between quitting the Coffee Shop and starting up the new job in the Call Center, so I made plans to go on a solo camping excursion through Zion's National Park and up into Southern and Central Colorado. The colors this time of year are supposed to be spectacular and I had some time to kill so I figured I'd just check that adventure off of my bucket list. But, when the opportunity came to start my new job right away, I couldn't turn it down. So, instead, Sam and I decided to go on a little spontaneous adventure together.

Sam got to ride "Big John", a huge, mellow, gorgeous Stallion; and I got the opportunity to get back on my baby girl "Sedona".
We mounted our trusty steeds and rode off into the (almost) sunset together, traversing the trails, taking in the scenery, and breathing in the fresh desert air.
Sedona couldn't resist stopping for a snack roughly every 18 seconds
I even got a little trotting action...sans my helmet!
It must have been dinner time, because Big John couldn't resist constant snacking either

We even saw a baby rattlesnake and I didn't freak out! On horseback with rattlesnakes around...I never thought I'd see the day. Unfortunately, that was the ONE thing I didn't take a picture of :(And did I mention that I also took my helmet off?! I'm pretty darn impressed with myself...gotta say.
Can we just talk for a minute about how obsessed with this picture I am?

Basically, we had the best time ever. I have to say, Sam wasn't particularly excited about going at first, but a few minutes in, he was thoroughly enjoying himself, and when we left he admitted that he had a ton of  fun :) We went home, took a shower, and watched some TV over bowls of some amazing Italian Orzo Soup that I'd started cooking earlier in the afternoon. Quality time at it's finest!
