I just got a call from my Supervisor advising me that I'd be switching back to nights for a few weeks to cover a co-worker's shift. Tomorrow. And I'll be doing so on (likely) three hours of sleep. Should be fun. So, I thought I'd just post these pics sometime in the middle of the night while I'm trying to keep myself occupied and not make any noise...but I can barely walk. I'm so. stinking. sore. it's ridiculous. I had a meeting last night at 6, so I decided I'd go for a hefty hike for a few hours, then meet up with Sam for dinner, and then go to the meeting afterwords...without having to make an extra trip. Plus, if I smelled bad enough for the meeting, they may be inclined to keep it quick, right?
Due to the recent snowfall and rain, there were lots of little creeks that aren't normally there |
Naturally, I had to climb around on the rocks until I found the sources...and the waterfalls :) |
There were so many little streams and waterfalls (and tourist-free zones) that I had to follow up...so much like in the rest of my life, I ended up wandering off of the trails at several points and rummaging through the wilderness...who needs a trail anyways? Well, it turned out that I'd lost track of time relaxing and soaking up the sun and taking pictures and thoroughly enjoying myself, and before I knew it, it was 4:00 (and I needed to meet Sam at the restaurant at 5:00). I was about 4 miles in, and I needed to be off of the trail, across town, at a restaurant, in an hour. I ended up RUNNING back to the car...it's amazing the amount of energy that can be bestowed upon you when there are enchiladas at the finish line. I still can't believe I didn't sprain and ankle or trip and fall to my death - it's a pretty intense trail. It would have been terribly embarrassing to not only miss my meeting, but have to have the Fire Fighters come and carry my stinky butt down. I got back in about 45 minutes and got to the restaurant 7 minutes early :) I even arrived to the meeting early and got a banana split afterwords. Unfortunately, I can barely walk today. My hips are so sore (if you're looking for a great glute workout, scaling rock faces on all fours does a pretty good job), and oddly, my toes are raw from ramming into the tips of my shoes on the way down. I'm pretty impressed with myself! Anyway, wish me luck tonight and for the rest of the week...I'm going to need it.
