After roughing it on the Yucatan Peninsula back in January, I knew I needed to come back with Brian and stay at a resort. I booked a trip a few days later and have been anxiously awaiting a relaxing retreat ever since. It wasn't the least expensive trip I've ever taken, but boy was it just what I needed :)
The whole trip was pretty uneventful...which is a good thing :) Normally we jam pack as much sight-seeing as we can into a trip, so it was so nice to just relax and not have to be anywhere, doing anything. We had 5 days of perfect weather, mojitos (I think I've found my drink and had like, 6 of them every day), sunbathing, napping, and stuffing our faces. Our days consisted of sleeping in, walking to breakfast, ogling the coatis digging for grubs in the grass, lounging in the sun and playing in the water, walking to lunch, more lounging in the sun and playing in the water followed by a mandatory mid-afternoon bubble bath, nap, shower, dinner, walk on the beach, repeat.
The resort was stunning and absolutely massive (Brian's phone calculated that we walked between 6 and 8 miles every day), and although we were put in the "Family Zone" - normally my worst nightmare - there weren't any kids around, so we had the entire pool and bar outside of our "pool access" room to ourselves. It was ideal because we were actually separated from the drunken honeymooners, Zumba classes, and college kids and had total peace and quiet on our own side of the grounds. The only hiccup (aside from a hair dryer that was intent on ripping my hair out of my head at every opportunity) was having our return flight delayed by 9 hours, but it worked out perfectly because the resort let us check out late, meaning a free extra day of food, beach time, showers, and we were still home and in bed by 10:30! It even started pouring rain as we waited for our shuttle, so it was perfect timing.
Now on to a big, exciting project that I'll soon be documenting. We'll be home for the next 2 months working on that and then off to Iceland for my birthday. Stay tuned my friends!
