Where The Wild Things Are - Spain - Mallorca Pt 2

Our second full day on Mallorca was filled with more winding roads and exploration. This time just a bit farther north, making our way to the eastern side of the island.

We drove a bit farther towards the little tower on the neighboring hilltop and walked up, enjoying the views along the way.

There were a bunch of abandoned buildings along the way, both old ruins and newer concrete structures...not sure what they used to be, but the area was closed down so as not to interfere with bird migrations.

There were lots of little secret staircases and tunnels and bunkers that we had to check out too...

From there, we spotted a lighthouse out on a peninsula and had to go check it out.

We pulled over at this spot to hike around and I almost fell to my death...Brian had to come rescue me, lol. It doesn't look that steep, but the ground beneath my feet basically began sliding down and had nothing to grab on to to stop myself, so I was all splayed out hoping to catch a rock or bush or something to break my fall. Pretty place to die though, amirite?

Our next stop was a huge cave that had been occupied by pirates back in the day. We took the guided tour and enjoyed a light and music show about heaven and hell featuring "O Fortuna" which took me back to my choir days. It was actually really cool.

We also spotted a castle (there don't seem to be as many in Spain as in  Italy or Croatia by comparison) and made our way over to check it out.

I found this sweet shy girl that reminded me of Jasper.

And the only social kitty of our whole trip. Brian is the kitty whisperer, that's for sure <3

We finished the day on a nature walk along the Mediterranean that led to an old fort where we watched the sun go down.

Our flight didn't leave until 3 pm on our last day, so we took the opportunity to explore Palma before heading to the airport. It was a surprisingly beautiful old city with a gorgeous marina packed full with mega yachts all buttoned up for the season in their white airtight covers. There were a couple of cruise ships in port, but the city was actually pretty quiet, which was nice. We spent a few hours exploring the historical sites and had lunch. I'd also like to note that parking in all of the cities we visited was a breeze. Most of them had underground parking right on the edge of town that was so convenient and didn't take forever...though having a tiny little car probably helped.

After lunch, we made our way to the airport for our flight back to Madrid and then spent the night there before flying back home. We took an Uber from the airport to our hotel which I thought was nearby but really wasn't. We were looking around for somewhere to have dinner that night, but couldn't find anything on our side of the highway, so we ended up crossing it and then bush-whacking in the darkness to a restaurant. It was quite the adventure and it was freezing that night, so we were all bundled up and looked ridiculous.

We had such a great time...we always do. I'm so glad that I got such cheap tickets because I don't think I would have gone to Spain anytime soon otherwise, and we really loved it there. It was nice kind of being able to understand the language too :)

Our next trip is in just a few weeks, we're going to the Bahamas and I'm so excited! Neither of us have ever been so it'll be so nice to just relax and be lazy and soak in the sun for a few days. See you then!
