The Mountains Were Calling - Northern Spain Road Trip - Segovia and Burgos

Welcome back, everybody! It's been a few months, but I'm excited to have a big International road trip to catch you up on! This time, we went to Northern Spain and France.

We flew into Madrid and rented a car for 8 days to explore. We immediately started off north, with our first stop being Segovia...a town famous for it's variety of architecture. We found parking and then took off on foot through the city and toward the famed medieval Castle, making stops along the way.

The Alcazar of Segovia is one of the prettier Medieval Castles I've ever seen. It just doesn't seem that old or real, for that matter. It looks like an amusement park set. The detail is exquisite and rumor has it that it served as inspiration for the Disney Castle.

We ate a late lunch overlooking the town and quickly realized that we still had quite a drive to our next destination and had to hit the road as we were getting really tired. Our motel for the night was in Burgos. We arrived in the early evening and found our way to the motel without issue. Just outside of our room was the Burgos Cathedral, a UNESCO Heritage Site. We managed to get inside right before they closed and checked it out.

The view from our room's window didn't suck.

Afterwards, we walked through town looking for something to eat...something that SHOULD be relatively simple but in Spain, is not so much. They eat dinner at like, 9 pm, so everything is closed between 2:30 and 9:00. Plus, I think it was a holiday or something, because none of the hours posted online were accurate. We ended up finding a Ramen spot off in a hidden alleyway. Then we walked around for a bit and found our way back to the Cathedral just after the sun had gone down.

We crashed out pretty early that night and then, thanks to jetlag, woke up super early. So, we walked back around the sleepy city while we waited for our motel's continental breakfast.

After an incredible breakfast, we made our way towards the west coast and the mountains!
