After our epic hike, we grabbed a bite to eat and then made our way back down to Lauderbrunnen to explore, and then up to Murren.
The entire trip, Brian had been using an app on his phone to help us with the train and bus schedule, but he hadn't updated it, so when we were ready to go back up to Wengen, we were at the wrong station waiting for the train. It was getting dark and there wasn't anybody around, but we found a gondola to Gimmelwald that left in an hour where we could catch the last bus of the night back to the station. We stopped off at a brewery for Apple Strudel and regional beer while we waited for the gondola and watched the sun set.
We ended up getting back to the room at 11:30 and passed out as soon as our heads hit the pillow.
The following morning, I awoke with my right eye almost completely swollen shut. I still have no idea why! I took Benadryl, iced it, put a warm towel on it...nothing. In fact, it stayed swollen for 4 days! Brian affectionately called it "The Slug" as it looked like a big slug crawling across my face. Anyway, we opted to split up for the morning - he went up to Schilthorn and I started the Eiger Trail.
After a few hours, we met back up and caught the train to Grindelwald. After spending the afternoon there, I've concluded that I'd love to go back and spend a couple of days hiking in that area...it was adorable.
Everywhere we went, we noticed the gorgeous churches and cemeteries with the most beautiful backdrops...it kind of has become a tradition
We stopped at a restaurant for dinner (and $5 tap water) and then returned to our motel for the last night.
